Sucking-out on Rhound is Fun

Postby monster » Sat Apr 19, 2008 5:01 pm

OK, so I have been playing poker for several years now, and I have to admit I am a losing player. I have had my fair share of winning streaks, but as I look back upon those streaks, I can recall some massive suckouts that enabled me to scoop mountains of red-chips at the casino. Usually I am a losing player, and worst of all is I have lacked the discipline to play within my limits and proper bankrolls, often ignoring my friend and best poker player I know, Rhound.

Anyways, after taking a long break from poker, I decided that I wanted to play again. Although I am currently very low on extra funds and short on time, I stumbled upon www.pokerstrategy.com and within a few days I had a Full Tilt account with $50 in it! So off I go to the $10 micro-limit tables (as opposed to short-buying into a $1/$2 PLO game), willing to stay within my limits and hopefully grind my way up the ladder. I plan on playing 3-4 tables at a time, but this first session I only played 3, since there was only $50 in my account, I didn't want to put 80% of my roll onto the tables at once.

Here are some hands from my first session. I'm always open to criticism, I know my game needs improvement, especially if I plan on moving up levels at some point...

Kings are fun to play by themselves, but flopping top set and getting raised is oh so sweeet! I had the board so killed and there weren't a lot of draws out there so I just called the raise, trying to entice the other player to call as well. I thought that was the right play?

Hand 3:
In this hand I flopped top pair and was check-raised. I probably should have folded the flop, but didn't. Looking back, I think that is where I mis-played this hand. Then I hit the turn and ended up calling another bet, but I think I made the right fold on the river.

OK, so I was so excited about finally being able to play some cards again that I decided to play again tonight while watching the Montreal v Boston game that I had saved on DVR. I started playing at about 11:15pm and finally just finished this session at 4:15 am. Most of the time I was 4-tabling, although I did close out all tables after the AA suckout and after considering calling it a night, I decided I wanted to grind it out rather than go to sleep with bad thoughts in my head. I wasn't really tired anyways. I made almost all my profit in the session after the AA hand, which was about 2.5 hours into the session. No big deal, just another small win, hopefully one of many to come!

There were a lot of suckouts this session, at least a lot more than in my first session. I'm glad I was able to stay disciplined for the most part and still come up almost two buy-ins.

OK so I have made a decision today. After suffering the big loss yesterday (4.5 buy ins) I have decided to play PLO rather than hold 'em. More than anything, I enjoy Omaha much more, and have had success in the past playing Omaha. My bankroll was down to $40 when I started a 5 hour long session 4-tabling the $10 tables. Does anyone know if they make Poker Tracker for Omaha and if so, is it compatible on Full Tilt?

Just finished up my late-nite short session. Played 3 tables for about an hour. I am really happy about playing Omaha instead of Hold 'em. I actually have played more Omaha online than Hold em, and I feel as though I play the game well. I wish I had more time to play. I can't wait for tomorrow. And isn't it great when you know exactly what you opponent has, and this flop comes along. I was just hoping he didn't have the flush draw as well...

Stack sizes:
hero: $9.25
CO: $11.90
Button: $4.05
SB: $27.05
BB: $10.95

Pre-flop: (5 players) hero is UTG with [9c] [Th] [8h] [7s]
hero raises to $0.35, CO calls, Button folds, SB raises to $1.5, BB folds, hero calls, CO folds.

Flop: [8d] [8c] [2d] ($3.45, 2 players)
SB bets $3.45, hero raises all-in $7.75, SB calls.

Turn: [4s] ($18.95, 1 player + 1 all-in - Main pot: $18.95)

River: [Kd] ($18.95, 1 player + 1 all-in - Main pot: $18.95)

Results:
Final pot: $18.95
SB showed 6h Js Ad Ah
hero showed 9c Th 8h 7s

Hand 2: Here is the main difference for me between Hold 'em and Omaha. In hold 'em, I have a hard time making the proper decision when to lay down a monster. Whereas in Omaha, I can confidently say that I made the right lay down in this next hand, he must have held some sort of drawing hand that contained 8-9.

Stack sizes:
UTG: $8.65
UTG+1: $8.55
CO: $7.30
Button: $17.25
SB: $3.75
hero: $17.85

Pre-flop: (6 players) hero is BB with [Jd] [Tc] [Kc] [Th]
UTG calls, 2 folds, Button calls, SB calls, hero checks.

Flop: [7c] [Jh] [4h] ($0.4, 4 players)
SB checks, hero checks, UTG checks, Button checks.

Turn: [2c] ($0.4, 4 players)
SB checks, hero bets $0.4, UTG calls, Button calls, SB calls.

River: [Ts] ($2, 4 players)
SB checks, hero bets $1, UTG folds, Button raises to $5, SB folds, hero folds.
Uncalled bets: $4 returned to Button.

Results:
Final pot: $4

1 hour
+ $23.70
Bankroll: $104.85

My goal is to make it to $625 as soon as I can so I can move up to the $25 tables.

Poker is silly.

It is not enough to be good at chess, you must also play well.

Somewhere in the world someone is training when you are not. When you race him, he will win.
