Difficult Turn spot w/ a deep stack still in hand (PLO$50)

Postby MTPaid » Wed May 28, 2008 10:54 pm

I've been on a pretty sick run since I sat down at the table about 50 hands ago. I've stuck it in with big draws several times and come out ahead each time in big pots.

I think the table reads me as pretty loose and ready to gamble with draws (although not without pretty good equity most times), but who knows if they are even paying attention.

The big stack behind me has been playing me cautiously so far. What do I want to do on this turn? Call or shove over to try and isolate which would risk about 200BB total if the BTN calls.

what do you think UTG has?

you are holding a lot of your own outs. It would suck if he had some too and the btn had a two AJxx or a set.

Considering the size of the pot now (over $70 and $32.70 to call), does it really matter what UTG has? There's no flush draw on board so all my outs are good if I hit them. He probably has a set of Jacks, possibly with some kind of straight draw, but maybe not. I don't think I'm ever really crushed often enough by him to consider folding.

To me, it's more about the BTN. He obviously has something here, but not enough to raise me. I think he could have some of my outs. I hope he has 2 pair because that makes me more live against a set. But do I want to call and let him in where I could possibly split with him sometimes if he has some type of gutshot or other straight draw?

well if UTG some some kind of wrap you dont want to be up against a button with two pair.

I think what the UTG has is what decides a raise or call IMO.

Been a while since I have thought about PLO though.

I guess it matters then in that context, but don't you have to assume that UTG has the stronger hand than BTN?

If BTN had a strong made hand, wouldn't he have to have raised my c-bet? UTG could have a set (most likely middle because AA would have re-raised preflop.....most likely). He could have 2 pair or a draw though. I don't know much about him. Don't think he'd been at the table long.

If I could just call and BTN would either call or fold and when he called he wouldn't bet the turn, then yes I'm definitely +EV here. I don't know that to be the case though.

I have less of a read on BTN's hand because I think he might be more likley to be playing 2 pair or bottom set more weakly, possibly fearing a bigger set - I did raise preflop and bet this flop after after all - or wanting to see a safe card on the turn before committing to a big pot.

I didn't want to make it that easy on him and I thought that it was also possible that I could push him off a made 2 pair or even bottom set. I also didn't want to share the pot with him..maybe I already said that, been a couple of days.

Anyway, I did end up shoving. BTN took a couple of seconds, but not all that long before folding. I was a dog, little less than 2 to 1, but was getting the right price with the BTN gone. Maybe the other reason I shoved was because the math got too difficult with the sidepot and I didn't want to be bothered with it.
