Another look at Projecting Earnings per Table

Postby piersmajestyk » Thu May 12, 2005 2:16 pm

A while back I posted some thoughts on what a player should be earning per table at the lower limits. It was a pretty generic listing without breaking it down according to the skill level of the player. Here I refined it somewhat and broke it down into 3 categories.
A: very modest winning player = 0.1-0.5 BB/hr per table
B: a solid player = 0.5-1.2 BB/hr per table
C: Monster = 1.2-1.5 BB/hr per table

Now there is alot of leeway between the lower and upper end of being a solid player. Solid starting hand requirements with good post flop play should get you somewhere nearer the upper end while just starting out with good cards and not playing so well post flop will probably have you hovering nearer the lower extreme.

Monster: Well just a tough customer that plays extremely well post flop at all times and also is extremely selective table wise. To be knocking down the upper end of the monster projected salary would be a pretty incredible feat just do to the volitility of online tables where it is a constant battle if you want to stay at prime tables all the time and honestly doing so is probably negative EV due to the time requirements of changing tables. But if you can obtain the projected win rate even at the lower end of the monster category you are playing extremely tough poker and honestly few players will obtain this mark but a goal to work toward none the less.

As a guiding rule I wouldn't put a whole lot of stock into your personal numbers until you have put in about 50K hands at a particular level. That is about the number of hands a person would expect to play if playing full time in a B&M setting for 1 year. With that number of hands you should have a very good idea of where you are standing in regard to your skill level and it will be sufficient to level out all of the bad and good runs that you will have had.

you need a monitor and video card that can support 1600x1200 pixel resolution. as most of the screens are approximately 800x600, this allows you to have four screens completely visible on one screen at a time.

if you want to play more than four, it is best to have multiple computers, a second video card to support a second monitor, or a video card that can support two monitors at the same time.

for what it's worth, i wouldn't try more than 4-tabling until you are very confident that you are a winning player and you can make decisions on how to play a hand best within a very short period of time (e.g. a few seconds).

also, several people recommend the dell 2001fp for a 4-tabling monitor. it's about $570 or so, iirc.

hope this helps.

Hi Piers

I assume that the projected earnings are based on a full 10 max table.

What should I expect to win at a 6 max table? (1$/2$ specificly)
As you play more hands per minute at a shorthanded table, the expected earnings should be higher right?
You are PWND
